Members who have distinguished records of achievment with the Association or the security industry may, at the invitation of the Board, be admitted to Life Membership of the Association.

A.L. Chantry Memorial Award for the Pursuit of Excellence
This Award was established in 1987 in honour of the late Albert Chantry, a pioneer of locksmithing in Victoria.
It acknowledges those members of the Association who:
- have served as Direcors of the Association in an honourable and dedicated manner, or
- have contributed significantly to and/or given consistent and worthy service to the aims and objectives of the Association.
Nominations for the A.L. Chantry Memorial Award are considered by the Board and require a vote of no less than 75% of Directors voting. The Award is presented at the Association's Annual Conference.

S.D. Mills Award
This Award honors the memory of the late Stephen D. Mills and acknowldeges an outstanding practical example of locksmithing, e.g the design of a new lock, locksmithing tool or procedure in areas ranging from the cutting of ornate keys to the development of computer software concepts or programs.
Whilst the initiative may have been developed by a group working independently or under supervision, only one person can be the recipient of the award. Judging of the Award will be undertaken by leading industry members nominated by the MLAA Board of Directors and the judges will take into consideration:
- the originality of the initiative
- its usefulness in the industry
- the quality of work undertaken.

John Andrew Apprentice of the Year Award
This annual award honours the memory of the late John Andrew who was the Association's inaugural Life Member and a winner of the A.L. Chantry Memorial Award for the Pursuit of Excellence. Eligible apprentices employed by MLAA Business members in Australia and New Zealand are invited to participate in this competition which involves a series of rigorous trade tests.
2012 Apprentice of the Year
Applications are invited from eligible employees of Business Members to participate in the prestigious John Andrew Apprentice of the Year Award for 2012.
To be eligible, applicants must complete their apprenticeship during the year ending 31 December 2012 and must not have previously participated in the Award.
The John Andrew Apprentice of the Year Award competition is open to employees of MLAA Business Members.
The Directors reserve the right to use their discretion in determining the eligibility of an application and their decision will be final.
Applications close at 5.00pm Friday 27 July 2012 and must be forwarded to Apprentice of the Year, MLAA, Suite 213/370 St. Kilda Road, Melbourne, Vic, 3004 or faxed to the Association on (03) 9645 9997.
Examinations will be conducted throughout August and early September at times and venues to be selected by Branch Examiners.
